"MS. FOUND IN A BOTTLE"

A mere 2 months after Warren did Richard Corben's version of "The Raven"-- editor Bill DuBay put together the first of 2 ALL-POE issues of CREEPY!  In one fell swoop, Warren essentially blew Skywald completely out of the water.

CREEPY #69, and the follow-up issue CREEPY #70 (2 months later) each featured 6 POE stories apiece.  Given the level of talent involved, one could say this effectively put the final nail in Skywald's coffin.

5th in this issue is...

     "MS. FOUND IN A BOTTLE".

     This was the 6th version of this, following...
Youthful's CHILLING TALES #17 (Oct'53),
Taika's ALBUM CLASSICOS DE TERROR #3 (1967),
Ibero Mundial's MAESTROS DEL TERROR #5 (1970),
Eerie's TALES OF VOODOO v5 #4 (Jun'72), and  
Skywald's SCREAM #6 (Jun'74).

The artist this time is Leo Summers.  He apparently spent a lot of time painting pulp magazine covers!  This would be his only POE adaptation.

And that brings us up to 13th out of 26 Warren POE adaptations!!

For whatever reason, this one hasn't been reprinted too often...

This issue of VAMPUS reprinted 5 POE stories-- 4 from Warren, and 1 from Skywald. "MS. Found In A Bottle" was the only one from CREEPY #69 instead of #70.
