Jules Verne, Part 22

(Continued from Jules Verne, Part 21)

THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN NEMO  (IPC)

In 1972, IPC in England started a new Disney-themed magazine, DONALD AND MICKEY.  In addition to the juvenile features, it also included some "adventure" strips based on their feature films.  For about 3 months, this included "The Adventures Of Captain Nemo".  The lush, graytoned artwork was by Sam Fair.

Considering Gold Key in America had done a new 5th episode of "The Adventures Of Captain Nemo" only 15 months earlier, the IPC story could be seen as a continuation of the earlier series.  Except, of course, that most readers in each country would probably never have seen the other version!  I'm making up for that here, by presenting both versions BACK-TO-BACK.

I was fortunate to discover that another fan, in England, had posted the first
12 pages' worth on his blog, which neatly comprise the complete 6th story.

While consistent with Nemo's attitude toward "riches" in the 1954 film, his comments are not consistent with the original novel, where it was shown he would donate huge amounts of money to help the victims of war and oppression, in the tradition of Robin Hood.  Oddly enough, the IPC Captain Nemo strip was replaced after 2 stories with The Adventures Of Robin Hood (which was NOT based on the 70s Disney ROBIN HOOD film).

The 2nd story ran either 5 or 6 weeks.  I'm not sure it was brought to a proper conclusion or ended in mid-story... you know how these things go.  At any rate, it hasn't turned up yet.  If it does, I'm sure I'll be going after it.

At any rate, that's a total of 8 Adventures Of CAPTAIN NEMO stories
that someone should collect together in book form one of these years.
