Poe 1972, Pt. 2

(Continued from Poe 1972, Pt. 1)

Skywald Publications was the work of Sol Brodsky & Israel Waldman.  While they had a small run of color comics designed to imitate Marvel, their biggest outpuit and claim to fame were their "Horror-Mood" B&W magazines, done very much in the mode of James Warren's CREEPY and EERIE.

Al Hewetson, a writer & editor, soon joined the company and eventually became full editor when Brodsky returned to MarvelHewetson determined to give Skywald's horror line a more "literate" feel than Warren's had, resulting in, among other things, no less than 19 Edgar Allan Poe adaptations between 1972-75.

But before that, there was this one-page Poe tribute published as a "frontispiece"... it doesn't really count as an "adaptation", but, I'm posting it here for the sake of historical chronological context.

As a bonus, here's an ad for the never-published 3rd issue of Skywald's HELL RIDER, a biker character created by Gary Friedrich, who later went on to created the "Johnny Blaze" flaming-skull biker version of "Ghost Rider" for Marvel.  Frankly, "Hell Rider" would have been a much better name for Blaze!
