Ziff-Davis was the company that bought out AMAZING STORIES in 1938, and published comic-books in the early 1950s, with SUPERMAN co-creator Jerry Siegel as their art director. The company had many interests, in magazines, pulps, and even television, comics being a mere short-lived sideline.
Shortly after their comics version of "THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM" in NIGHTMARE #2 (Fall'52), the company published not only an illustrated version of "THE CASK OF AMONTILLADO" in one of their pulp magazines, but also, a brand-new sequel to it, "THE OPENER OF THE CRYPT", in the same issue!
John Jakes is an author whose work includes the Johnny Havoc series, Brak The Barbarian, Gavin Black, and Kent Family, North And South, and Crown Family Saga. Both the Kent Family and North And South books were adapted at least in part as TV mini-series.
Unlike Poe, Jakes' material is still under Copyright, which probably explains the lack of his story being posted ANYWHERE online (that I know of, as yet).
However, no less than 3 different comics stories took their inspiration from it. A mere 3 months after its publication, it became the basis for a rather blatent swipe by the "Iger Shop". This in turn was much-later redone by Eerie Publications. Finally, it was officially licensed and adapted by Marvel Comics in 1973 with art by Frank Brunner! I'll be getting to those.

I've been unable to find any art from this story, or even to determine if illustrator "David Stone" is also illustrator "David Stone Martin" (who's known for jazz LP covers) or not.
But in the meantime, Jakes' story was reprinted multiple times...

I think (but am not 100% sure) that this was David K. Stone, who went on to be a noted illustrator of historical themes. Will try to find out for sure.
