Poe 1970, Pt. 2

(Continued from Poe 1970, Pt. 1)

HORROR  5
"IL FARO"

I've been looking forward to getting back to the 1970s for some time now.  So many items have turned up over the last several years, I decided the only sane way to keep things organized on this blog, was to start the 1970s over from scratch, in order to post or re-post items in any semblance of chronological order. As it happens, this early in, I now focus on a real oddball item, even for this project.

Apparently, the very last story that Edgar Allan Poe began writing before he died was called...

     "THE LIGHTHOUSE"

Begun in 1849, the title “The Lighthouse” was assigned by George E. Woodberry, who first published the text of pages 2-4 in THE LIFE OF EDGAR ALLAN POE (1909).

Author Robert Bloch finished Poe's story, which was then published in the January-February 1953 issue of FANTASTIC, from Ziff-Davis.

It was then reprinted in FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND #53 (February 1969 / Warren Publications), "illustrated" by photos from various horror movies via editor Forrest J. Ackerman!

And then it turned up as an "illustrated story" in Italy, courtesy of Gino Sansoni Editore's HORROR #5 (April 1970).  The art was by Dino Battaglia, who for many years held the record for the most number of Poe comics adaptations
(10 in all from 1968 to 1981).  If this had been an actual comics adaptation, it would have been his 4th.  But, you do what you can.

Copies of HORROR #5 are currently available from the Fumetto Online online store, as well as on Ebay Italy, but at the moment, I'm not prepared to pay the outragiously-inflated SHIPPING costs associated with buying from Italy, which in my previous experience has consistently been the most obscenely-overpriced of all the various countries I've dealt with.  So, I hereby put out an appeal to any Poe fans, horror fans or comics fans reading this.  If you have a copy of HORROR #5 and could send me HIGH-RES scans of the related pages, PLEASE do so!  I'd very much appreciate the help.
