As should be obvious, SPACE CONQUERORS! had stagnated quite a bit around this point, and in my opinion, had not been quite as exciting since George Evans' departure. All that was about to change between months. But first, a trio of bonuses, all from the August 1962 issue.
Art by Lou Fine, Neal Adams & Dik Browne, respectively.
Ironically, after several instances of months without the strip, the new era begins without a break-- right here! Fans of FORBIDDEN PLANET take note... the "Galaxy One" era of SPACE CONQUERORS! has arrived...

Something I find interesting in all the iterations of SPACE CONQUERORS! is that Al Stenzel sometimes went years before giving the names of the characters. That is, if I had the assignment of writing such a strip, it'd be hard not to start with "Our rocket is on launchpad, with the skipper, Doc, Sparks the engineer, and Bill.." or whatever. Not so with these. So for years it's just 3 or 4 guys without names, having adventures in space, until somebody slips and actually refers to somebody by name or nickname.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting in the last panel that they had to wait until night to shoot the big dipper. In space, it's always night.
