NIGHTMARE 19
"WILLIAM WILSON"
Skywald Publications was the work of Sol Brodsky & Israel Waldman. While they had a small run of color comics designed to imitate Marvel, their biggest output and claim to fame were their B&W "Horror-Mood" magazines, done very much in the mode of James Warren's CREEPY and EERIE.
Al Hewetson, a writer & editor, soon joined the company and eventually became full editor when Brodsky returned to Marvel. Hewetson determined to give Skywald's horror line a more "literate" feel than Warren's had, resulting in, among other things, no less than 19 Edgar Allan Poe adaptations between 1972-75.
Here we come to the 8th of these...
"WILLIAM WILSON".
This was the 2nd version of this story, following Editora Taika's ALBUM CLASSICOS DE TERROR #6 (1968).
This story of an evil man with a mysterious doppleganger has its own kind of "disturbing". Is the double an unknown relative? A supernatural being? All in the title character's mind?
I confess I'm more familiar with this story via its cinematic adaptation in the 1968 anthology film HISTORIES EXTRAORDINAIRES, known in the U.S. as SPIRITS OF THE DEAD.
The art this time is by "Alfonso Font". Another Spanish artist I know little about... but isn't it fun learning?
This was his 1st of 3 Poe adaptations.

Oddly enough, this story turned up in some foreign reprint comics that were mainly Warren-oriented.
