"EL GATO NEGRO"
     (IN COLOR  w/ English Translation)

Ibero Mundial De Ediciones was the work of publisher & editor José María Arman Corbera, located in Barcelona, Spain, from 1959 to 1978.  In their time they did romance, comedy, horror & science-fiction.

DOSSIER NEGRO was a B&W horror anthology in the style of Warren's CREEPY and others, which began in 1968.

Among its contents were at least 3 Poe adaptations.  Second up:

     "THE BLACK CAT"

     This was the 9th comics version of this story, following...
Charlton's YELLOWJACKET COMICS #1 (Sep'44),
EC's THE HAUNT OF FEAR #15 [1] (May-Jun'50),  
St. John's NIGHTMARE #12 (Apr'54), 
Outubro's CLASSICOS DE TERROR #14 (1961),  
Dell's Movie Classic TALES OF TERROR (Feb'63),  
Taika's PAGINAS SINISTRAS #3 (1966), 
Novaro's VIDAS ILUSTRES #195 (Oct'68), and
Gino Sansoni's I CLASSICI A FUMETTI #17 (Sep'69),
     ...the latter only 11 months earlier!

The art is by Miguel Gomez Esteban.  This was his 2nd of 2 POE stories.

His art really reminds me of the look and feel of a classic Hammer Film.  Or, for that matter,  an episode of Dan Curtis' DARK SHADOWS, which was still on the air when this came out.

I first found this story at the Tierra La Larabeau blog on 12-15-2016.  However, the quality of the scans were SO AWFUL, they proved unusable.  I decided I needed to find a buy a copy of the actual comic so I could make my own high-res scans myself.  I was able to get one at the Todocoleccion site, from Manuel Díaz Bejarano, alias "La Casa Chica", on 11-24-2022.  I got started on processing the same day it arrived in the mail!
